Operating a semi requires a special set of skills, which includes being able to safely maneuver and back the vehicle. Being able to successfully back a semi is a learned skill and is a large part of being a professional driver. The Advanced backing Skills portion of the Class A CDL Professional Driving Certificate Program will prepare students with real-life backing situations which include: warehouse backing, off set, parallel, and angle backing. Additional backing skills will include encountering obstacles such as cars, posts, curved entrances, backing through parking lots saturated with employee cars and around building corners. Additional backing training will include exercises such as a serpentine backing, backing around corners, and staged situations placing obstacles in close proximity. Students not in the Class A CDL Professional Driver Certificate Program must have a valid CLD licence and medical card.
