It is the role and responsibility of all mandatory reporters to protect children and dependent adults from harm both self-inflicted and perpetrated by others. The goal of this training for health providers is to increase their knowledge of child and dependent adult abuse.
This course meets the training requirement for mandatory reporters who work with both children and dependent adults on a regular basis. It does not meet the training requirements for persons who work with only one population and not both children and adults. The curriculum for this program is approved by the Iowa Department of Public Health Abuse Education Review Panel, approval #2032. Objectives: 1) Express an awareness of the existence of child and dependent adult abuse; 2) Define abuse situations and the concepts that will assist in identifying abuse; and 3) Explain the responsibilities and duties of mandatory reporters.
