ID : 96126
« back to classes page
Iowa has had a select number of outstanding governors, those who improved the quality life within the Hawkeye State. They include James Grimes, the father of the modern Iowa Constitution; Samuel Kirkwood, Iowa's Civil War governor; Albert B. Cummins, Iowa's progressive governor; Harold Hughes, charismatic reformer; and Robert Ray, a long-time governor who modernized state government.   All of these "Governors of Influence" impacted – and improved – the state in different ways.  Learn about how each of them rose to each age's challenges and, in doing so, learn about Iowa political history.
