This course addresses broad patterns of the history of American architecture, building materials, and technology, with specific emphasis on the application of architectural history to historic preservation projects. The course will be divided into two parts. The first half will provide you a background in the major developments in American architecture from pre-contact through the early 21st century, emphasizing architecture as a reflection of cultural and societal trends. The second half of the course will focus on the evolution of building technology from the 19th century through the present.
