Production operators within manufacturing are in high-demand in Eastern Iowa. Created in close partnership with local manufacturing employers, this short-term program provides students with a custom-built curriculum that features the essential skills, knowledge, tools, and techniques needed for a career in a manufacturing environment. Learn how to utilize basic manufacturing math, measuring tools, computer systems, health and safety procedures, and professional communication skills that are commonly requested in candidates. At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to interview with the partner employers and compete for potential job openings in their organizations. Classes include Applied Math for Manufacturing; Measuring Tools for Manufacturing; Computer Basics for Manufacturing; Power Industrial Forklift Operations; First Aid/CPR; OSHA 10-hour General Industry; Manufacturing Pre-employment; Employed Communication Skills.

Program Completion Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of all course objectives, as well as 70 percent attendance, are required to complete and receive the certification.

Course Objectives:
• Learn the fundamental concepts of number systems, including symbology and place value.
• Recognize fundamental mathematical principles, properties, and operation hierarchies.
• Use various mathematical principles and operations to solve manufacturing-related problems and analyses.
• Learn the fundamental tool usage safety considerations when working within a manufacturing environment.
• Understand the theory of precision measurement.
• Recognize the various measurement systems and specifications used in manufacturing environments.
• Identify types of computer applications used in a manufacturing environment.
• Successfully demonstrate inspection and operation of various types of lifts, power lifts, and lift-trucks commonly found in manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrate understanding of general industry safety and health principles, OSHA policies, and procedures.
• Facilitate proper CPR/AED techniques and procedures in accordance with American Heart Association standards.
• Demonstrate successful employment and career search strategies.
• Develop resume and interview techniques based on industry best practices.
• Practice team building and develop successful communication techniques based on real-world manufacturing scenarios.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students should be equipped with applicable knowledge of manufacturing math, tools and technology, forklift operation techniques, industry and health safety procedures, and professional communication skills to be able to apply and compete for entry-level positions in the manufacturing industry. Employer partners involved with this curriculum seek to hire graduates directly out of the course.
