This course is designed to train operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants emphasizing safe practices and procedures as well as regulatory compliance. Information is presented on wastewater as a resource and its components; treating and discharging effluent to receiving waters or for reuse in communities and industries; and identifying, preventing, and controlling odor from wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities. Also covered are the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment instrumentation equipment, emphasizing safe practices and procedures, and to provide operators an overview of the functions and responsibilities of wastewater utility managers. Information is presented on process automation, instrumentation concepts and equipment, utility management topics including planning and organizing, solving problems and making decisions, workforce development, finance and funding, information management, asset management, communication, and resilience.
