Motorcycle Training: Basic Rider Course (BRC)

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course (updated) is a learn-to-ride education and training safety program that consists of the 5 hour online MSF eP1 eCourse to address basic motorcycle knowledge, classroom time for paperwork (waiver, local forms, preriding quiz, etc.) and 11 hours of on-cycle, hands-on instruction. A course completion card may provide an insurance discount. Riders must be able to balance a bicycle to participate in the riding portion of the course, and a riding skill test must be passed for successful completion. Motorcycles and helmets are supplied by Kirkwood for this program. MSF completion card and IDOT certificate of completion will be awarded to persons satisfactorily passing the course. Students must be 14 years of age or older and have a valid Iowa driver's license or instruction permit to take this course. Anyone under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must accompany participant into the first class to sign paperwork. Participants will receive a link for the required eCourse in their registration confirmation via email once registration is complete. The 5 hour online eP1 eCourse is to be completed by the start of the class and participants will need to provide proof of completion (printed certificate or copy of certificate on their phone) at the start of the class in order to participate. The $25 eCourse fee is nonrefundable once you are registered.
