Discover how illustrations can deepen a story, capture emotions, and create memorable experiences for readers. In this beginner-friendly class, participants will explore the art of visual storytelling by using a written narrative as the foundation for developing supporting illustrations. Through guided exercises, students will learn how to break down a story into key moments, establish a visual style, design engaging characters, and create imagery that enhances the narrative rather than simply decorating it. The focus of this class is on the storytelling process; how artists make creative decisions that communicate mood, action, character, and meaning. Students, age 14 years and older, will explore techniques used in children's books, graphic novels, concept art, and other visual narratives while developing their own illustrated interpretation of a story. Whether you enjoy drawing, writing, or simply want to learn a new creative skill, this class offers an engaging introduction to the world of visual storytelling.

Please read:  Students age 14 and older are welcome to attend. This class is designed for beginners and focuses on storytelling concepts rather than creating polished or finished artwork. Basic illustration techniques and design principles will be discussed, but the emphasis is on developing visual narratives, character concepts, and story-driven imagery. All skill levels are welcome.
