The foundation of optimal patient care includes a thorough knowledge of disease state etiologies, pathologies and evidence-based care guidelines. The goal of this program is to offer the registered nurse an opportunity to update and refresh their general pharmacotherapy knowledge to support optimal outcomes and best practice patient care. Topics will be discussed based on body systems and disease states, such as cardiac, endocrine, and respiratory. Participants will have the opportunity to assess their knowledge with case studies and application examples and questions. The participant must be a registered nurse with an active Iowa license or, if inactive, must be eligible for re-licensure. Nursing contact hours will be awarded at course completion.
Objectives: 1) Describe commonly seen disease states, 2) Identify the pathophysiology pertinent to presentation and diagnosis, 3) Describe the most common treatments and evidence-based guidelines, and 4) Evaluate patient cases for therapeutic goals and discuss in application-based scenarios.
