Two of the most difficult aspects to master in the dental industry are shade matching and communicating what you see. They are difficult due to the limitations of the human eye to perceive color in a clear, concise and consistent matter and because color perception varies from person to person. Because of these limitations, the speaker has compiled best practices for taking shades and communicating shade through photography with the dental lab. Our target audience is dental assistants, dental hygienists, and dentists. Approved dental continuing education hours will be awarded for 100% attendance.
Objectives: 1) Define the limitations of the eye, 2) Discuss best practices for shade taking for both fixed and removable prosthetics, including lighting, patient positioning, and avoiding color interference, 3) Describe how to use standard shade guides for both fixed and removable prosthetics, 4) Describe how to diagram and communicate shade on a prescription, and 5) Describe best practices for photography including lighting, camera type, and patient positioning.
