The Symbolism of Crosses Found on Gravestones

ID : 110392
« back to classes page
There are hundreds of styles of Christian cross variants in existence. In this class we look at both rare and common types of crosses encountered in graveyards and cemeteries. Some of the cross types you will learn about are the Coptic ankh, the anchor cross, the Greek cross, the Latin cross, the Celtic cross, and the cast-metal crosses created by Charles Andera, an Iowan in the 19th century who is considered a “Czech-American” treasure. No pre-requisite is required. This class is suitable for high school students and older and would appeal to anyone interested in cemetery symbolism, ecclesiastical history, and Iowa history.
