Nurse Aide Training Program (hybrid)

The Nurse Aide Training program is designed to meet the training requirements for the nurse aide in long-term care facilities. Emphasis is placed on achieving a basic level of knowledge of the resident, and demonstrating skills to provide safe and effective resident care. Students must complete a background check permission form at www.kirkwood.edu/nurseaide promptly after registration. Access to Nurse Aide Electronic Background Permission Form here. This must be completed no less than 48 business hours before the first day of class. Students will do a minimum of 30 hours of online work and will be required to log into the course 5 of 7 days each week as well as meet at an assigned lab location once each week for 6 weeks. Once students have completed the online and lab portion of the program, they will be be required to meet at an assigned clinical location to complete the 30 hours of clinical rotation portion of this training. All 30 hours of clinic must be attended to earn a passing grade. Required textbook: Hartman’s Nursing Assistant Care, 3rd or 4th edition, Hedman. Books are available at the Kirkwood Bookstore. Notice

Please read:  Your log in information will be sent to you via email 3 days prior to the class start date. Email subject line: Nurse Aide Training Program (hybrid) class log in information. There will be Lab every Thursday night 01/16, 01/23, 01/30, 02/06, 02/13, 02/20/2020 at Linn County Regional Center, Room 518 in Hiawatha. Clinic will be held 02/22,& 02/23/2020 6AM - 4:30 PM and 02/25 & 02/26/2020 4:00 PM - 9:15 PM - Heritage Nursing and Specialty. (Instructor Julie Merritts). College credit will not be given for this class. Physical, immunizations, and documentation of two (2) negative Mantoux TB tests OR one (1) Quantiferon Gold blood test must be presented to your instructor the first lab date. For the Mantoux TB tests, one must be within 11 months of the start of clinic. Mantoux TB test documentation MUST be on the Kirkwood form and presented to your instructor no later than the first lab date. Additional requirements: 1) Physical exam (form can be found at www.kirkwood.edu/nurseaide), 2) Students must be at least 16 years old, 3) Attendance at each session will be expected, 4) Background check permission form at www.kirkwood.edu/nurseaide. A non-refundable background check fee of $20.00 is included in tuition, and 5) Uniform, watch, and white leather-type shoes are needed for clinic. If the tuition is being billed to a facility, the facility needs to complete a sponsorship billing form and fax it to 319-398-7185. The student can then be registered.
