ID : 111780
« back to classes page
Cemeteries, especially those of the Colonial and Victorian Era, contain fantastic examples of cemetery art — but did you ever wonder what the symbolism of the gravestones found there mean? This class will help you interpret the meaning of these older, but intriguing, monuments and will provide you with an in-depth understanding of this fascinating subject. We will also discuss symbols of secret societies and fraternities, as many gravestones are either inscribed with their symbols or are accompanied by grave medallions with such symbols. Feel free to bring pictures or photos of symbols or medallions that you would like to know more about. No pre-requisite. Suitable for individuals 18 years and older, especially those interested in cemetery history, Colonial American history, and the Victorian Era.
