Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (Hybrid)

This AEMT course will prepare the learner to take the AEMT National Registry practical and written examinations for state of Iowa certification. The course focuses on prehospital emergency care fundamentals and advanced airway and cardiac management skills. All lecture, assignments, quizzes, and exams will be completed at your own pace. There will be 4 required Saturdays the students will meet in person at Kirkwood Community College on 5/4, 6/1, 6/29, and 8/3 to perform skills. Those hours will be 8:30am-4pm. Students are required to have a current BLS certification and an active Iowa EMT certification prior to the first night of class and maintain both certifications throughout the course. Participants are required to participate in clinical internship at hospitals and ambulance services, or fire departments.

Please read:  Your Talon log in information will be sent to you via email prior to the start of class. Email subject line: Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (hybrid) class log in information. All lecture, assignments, quizzes, and exams will be completed at your own pace. There will be five required Saturdays the students will meet in person at Kirkwood Community College on 5/4, 6/1, 6/29, and 8/3 to perform skills. Those Hours will be 8:30am-4pm. Students are required to have a current BLS certification and an active Iowa EMT certification prior to the first night of class and maintain both certifications throughout the course. The student must also have a High School Diploma or a GED prior to the first night of class. A Kirkwood EMS shirt is required for class and clinical and will be supplied for you on your second lab. The required textbook for this course will be supplied the first lab day. Students will also need to have a tablet or laptop for class and clinical. Background checks and immunization records are required prior to the clinical internship. In addition to tuition, there are approximately $550.00 in fees paid directly by the student. These fees include NREMT written and psychomotor exams, and IDPH certification/licensure application and background check.
